Why Including Grandparents in Family Photos Matters
When it comes to having grandparents in family photos, it’s not just about documenting faces—it’s about preserving a legacy.
This was my second time photographing these kiddos this year—first with Grandma, now with Grandpa’s turn in front of the camera.
We met at Golden Gardens on a brisk morning, bundled up against the chill. There was laughter, tickles, pink bench snuggles, and the kind of goofy faces only grandkids can get away with.
But as I clicked away, I kept thinking: this wasn’t just a fun outing. This was grandparents family photos in the truest sense—capturing the kind of love and legacy that only comes when generations meet in front of the lens.
The Magic of Generations Together
Grandparents hold an irreplaceable place in our family stories. They are the keepers of history, the tellers of “when you were little” tales, and the source of unconditional love (and maybe an extra cookie or two).
Yet, so often, they’re missing from the album. Sometimes it’s because they’re camera-shy. Other times it’s just not on the list when life is busy.
Inviting them into your session creates a bridge between past and present—a way for your children to see themselves as part of something bigger.
Why Getting Grandparents in Family Photos Matters
When you look back years from now, you won’t just see faces.
You’ll see the way Grandpa leaned in to listen, the way Grandma’s hug wrapped everyone up, the way your children’s laughter lit them up in return.
These are the photos that become heirlooms. The ones future generations will hold in their hands and say, “That’s who we came from.”
Don’t Wait for “Someday”
I hear it often: “We’ll do photos with Grandma and Grandpa someday.” But someday has a sneaky way of slipping past us.
The truth? The best time to make these memories is now. A short morning at the park or a cozy afternoon at home is all it takes to create something timeless.
Ready to Create Your Own Legacy?
Whether it’s a chilly park bench, a walk through your backyard, or a snuggle on the couch, these moments matter.
If you’ve been meaning to plan grandparents family photos, consider this your nudge. You’ll never regret having too many pictures of the people who love your family most.
