What to Expect During Your Fall Family Session

Fall in Coeur d’Alene is pure magic—crisp air, golden leaves, cozy layers, and families slowing down for one more adventure before winter sets in. If you’ve booked your fall family session, here’s what you can expect (and why it’s less stressful than you think).

1. A Relaxed Start

We’ll meet at the agreed spot and take a few minutes to settle in. No rushing, no pressure—just time to let the kids warm up (sometimes literally, depending on the weather!).

2. Play Over Posing

Instead of stiff smiles, expect tickle fights, leaf throwing, shoulder rides, or snuggles under a blanket. These little moments are what bring your family’s story to life.

3. The Beauty of Golden Hour

Most fall sessions are scheduled around golden hour, that dreamy time before sunset when the light is soft and warm. This timing helps us capture those rich autumn tones and flattering light you’ll love.

Ready to capture your family in all its cozy, fall glory? My October mini-sessions are almost full—[book your fall mini here].

4. Kid-Friendly Flow

Worried about meltdowns or short attention spans? Totally normal. I’m known as a personality-driven kid-whisperer. I keep sessions moving and playful with breaks for little ones if needed. We’ll follow their lead—you’ll be surprised how much joy and personality shines through when kids feel free to be themselves.

5. Simple Guidance Throughout

You don’t need to know what to do. After all, who is used to being in front of the camera all the time (except any teen who has nailed their selfies)! I’ll gently direct you into flattering light and offer easy prompts so your interactions feel natural. Think more “hug your kids close” and less “say cheese.”

6. A Beautiful Ending

We’ll wrap with a few “mantle-worthy” portraits, making sure you have both playful and classic images to choose from (because we know they’re the perfect gift for Grandma!). Then you can head home for cocoa, chili, pumpkin-carving, or whatever your fall family tradition might be.

Why It Matters

Fall only lasts a few short weeks, and your kids will never be this age again. These sessions are about more than photos—they’re about holding onto the laughter, the hand-holding, and even the wild energy that defines this season of life.
