Are you an older sibling? Do you remember when your parents brought your baby brother or sister home for the first time? I don’t remember that, but I do remember snippets of emotions in that first year when I had a new little brother. Photographing this family through the birth of their second child brought it all back for me. I remember feelings of curiosity, a little excitement, a little apprehension, and a little jealously all jumbled together that I would express in different ways. Watching big brother here look over at his new little brother with a mix of curiosity and wonder lean closer, only to change his mind really quickly and decide a buffer of space between them was actually good is such a normal and natural behavior. Why are we forcing older siblings to get closer to get a “perfect” photo? Is that really how most toddlers act in the first few days or weeks of adjusting to a new baby in the house? No, most don’t at all. I think these photos here, the ones that aren’t perfect but show how he is actually feeling, are just as perfect and beautiful. They are your family at this moment in time, before things change again. Enjoy all the moments.

What an unbelievable moment to share when a family comes together in the home for the very first time. The journalistic style captures it beautifully.
Thanks so much Lara!
