Best Locations for Summer Family Photos in CDA

In my humble opinion, today I wanted to share with you my Best Locations for Summer Family Photos in CDA. Summer is such a lovely time in Coeur d’Alene, and a great place to book a family session or take pictures of your own kids whether you’re a local or you’re visiting from out of town. There are so many fantastic places to take photos, so I’ll share with you my top 5 favorites.

1. City Beach

Say no more. If you want a mixture of golden light on sandy beaches with gorgeous Coeur d’Alene lake in the background or the quaint downtown vibe with Independence Point looking the other way, then this is the spot for you! This would be great for family sessions or extended family sessions with kids of all ages. If you want super clean images without other people in your photos, this is not the spot for you, however. Downtown CDA and city beach is a very popular spot in the summer!

2. Tubbs Hill

If you want more seclusion with a gorgeous lake and tree setting, then say no more. You’ll have to take a short hike to get to some of these gorgeous private picturesque spots for photos, so wear some good shoes and plan for a bit of extra walk time. If you have super young kids or are averse to hiking, then Tubbs may not be your top choice. It is also not ideal for extended family shoots, as some of the best locations are right off the trail in narrow, tight spaces.

3. Blue Creek Bay

Gorgeous fields? Check. Close by? Check. Secluded? Check. Gorgeous any time of year? Check. Blue Creek Bay has it all. Lots of little trails, tons of room, pretty open fields that descend towards the water, trees, and even a barn. This would be a great place for maternity, family, senior, or extended family photos! The only downside is make sure you use the maps to find it!

4. Farragut State Park

Farragut, about 20 minutes north of Hayden, has a beautiful beach and picturesque views of Pend O’Rielle Lake and the mountains beyond. This would be a great beach location if you don’t want the crowds of downtown CDA. Besides the beach area, Farragut State Park also has lots of open fields all over, which I think always make beautiful backdrops! It is a longer drive and you do need a State Park pass to park there, but it’s well worth it. Get your photo on and then spend the day relaxing, biking, and exploring!

5. Corbin Park

Corbin Park is in Post Falls, Idaho, only 15 minutes away. While I haven’t actually taken photos here yet, I’ve seen other photographers shoot here and it’s just gorgeous backlit with the river, rocky beach and trees in the background! This sweet park is perfect for maternity, family, or senior photography. I think it would be a bit more stressful with a toddler who wants to walk or boulder across the beach but if you can manage that, then go for it!

I have many other awesome locations a bit further away than Coeur d’Alene that I can share if you’re interested. Let me know what you think of these photogenic spots!
