“And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be.” – The Beatles
My friend Maureen reminds me of this song. I think it’s because she is fun and wise and also a carefree mother bear looking after her brood with such fierce dedication. I’m in awe. But she’s not looking over them in a hovering, helicopter-style way but in a “you got this but I’m here if you need me” kinda way. In my mind, she has the perfect hard-to-find balance. When I find myself getting stressed out over things, I think of Maureen and I think of this song.
I wrote a post earlier about not stressing about whether your house is spick-and-span for your session or not, and part of this post was about this session. I’ll pick on my friend a little bit, but she doesn’t give much of a rip if her house is tidy all the time. And I LOVE that about her. She’d rather spend her time laughing and loving, reading, and gardening. Amen to that, sister! Let it be.
Let’s focus instead on what matters most – raising our children in a loving and fun household. Raising our kids to be self-confident, independent and respectful, to live with passion and fun, and to love deeply and honestly. Teach them that nothing and no one is perfect -and that is okay – by being brave through showing our own imperfections without apologizing. Let’s raise our kids to also experience failure and rejection, so we can be there to help them see that it’s not the end of the world, that THEY are not a failure, and that tomorrow is another day.
“And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be, Shine until tomorrow, let it be.”
