I absolutely love newborn family photography. It’s my new favorite type of session to photograph, and I’ll tell you why. First and best, I get to meet and document a new little life, a new little miracle. I get to spend a few hours with this new little peanut and his family, and see how the siblings like to show their affection for their little brother. I get to see and document how Mom and Dad hold, cuddle, and breathe in their new son or daughter. I get to see what their new normal is and how they are dealing with it. It’s very real and raw and full of emotion, with lots of highs and lows. And last, I am invited into their home, their special place where so much happens. I get more of an insight about what they like to do together, where they like to hang out, what they are into. As a lover of architecture and design, incorporating all of this into the shoot is such a great challenge and creative outlet for me! I love looking at the light and subjects in an interesting space and making it meaningful and relevant. I could go on and on, literally, but I’ll stop here so you can see what I mean.
Meet Torin, 12 days old, the youngest of three, and the only boy (besides dad). He was such a trooper, as were his sisters. I spent two hours with this family, photographing them in their element in their home. Photographing their “new normal”. We all remember the “new normal” when something life-changing happens, right? I’ve known them for a few years now and it is such a blessing to be able to document their lives in that moment. This is one of my favorite newborn sessions to date, mostly all shot on film. I hope you love it.
