One of the Top 100 Photographers to Watch in 2017 by Clickin Moms

The Year That Changed Everything

Sometimes, life throws you little surprises—the kind that make you stop, stare, and say, Wait, what? Me? That was exactly my reaction when I opened an email and saw my name listed among some of the most incredible photographers in the industry. I was so surprised to see my name among such amazing talent in Clickin’ Moms Top 100 Photographers to Watch in 2017!  What an honor!

If you had told me years ago that I’d be recognized on a list like this, I probably would have laughed and gone back to editing yet another photo of tiny newborn toes. But here we are. 2016 was a year of growth, learning, and leaning into my love for storytelling through photography. It was the year I fully embraced film photography—even in the unpredictable, gray-skied drizzles of Seattle. (Which, let’s be real, is most of the year.)

The Challenge of Film in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane’s Moody Light

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Spokane, Washington in the Inland Empire isn’t exactly known for its golden hour glow, but I see it differently. The soft, diffused light, the cozy indoor moments, and even the misty backdrops add a certain poetic charm to newborn and family sessions. It’s all about finding magic in the ordinary—and film photography has pushed me to do that in new and exciting ways.

There’s something timeless about film. It captures emotion differently. It forces me to slow down, be intentional, and truly connect with the families I photograph. And maybe, just maybe, that’s what landed me a spot as “One of the Top 100 Photographers to Watch in 2017.”

What’s Next?

Recognition like this is both humbling and motivating. It makes me want to push my creativity even further, capturing those fleeting, in-between moments that tell the real stories of family life. 2017, I’m ready for you.
