Master Work-Life Balance with Photography Systems!
Let’s talk about balance today. Work/life balance. Actually, let me backup a bit.
Growing a photography business (from the ground up) all starts with a solid base of support from which to thrive. There are myriads of examples of this concept, like how a tree’s growth is influenced by its roots, trunk, & then branches, being grounded/centered in yoga, & Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Another way to look at having a solid base of support is having balance: the balance of yin and yang, right and left brain function, creative and analytic thinking, work/life balance, and more.
What is that solid base of support that all creatives (and biz have in common)? A plan and a system. The foundation. Your base. Once your foundation is solid, your business has energy to branch out and grow in other very important areas (and serve your people, give you fulfillment, and make $$)!
In photography, growing a business reminds me a bit of a Mandala of Interconnectedness: Professional development/problem-solving/innovation, Marketing, Relationships, a fantastic POS experience (for service or product based businesses), and Work/Life Balance (& upper-tier Maslow’s growth needs met) ? Repeat.
What intersects all of those areas and provides the base? Your systems.

I’ve realized every epiphany I’ve had that has moved my business & personal life forward has always come from solving problems. They’ve revolved around learning a new tool, technique, framework, system, outsourcing, and automating. A quick example is learning flash to finally get beautiful, consistently exposed images on film inside anywhere. Or another is ordering groceries online and picking them up, or creating a system to streamline the college application process for my kids with the ACCEPTED College Admissions Planner. You can literally improve or automate and outsource any system to help with work and life (and balance). As the years have passed I’ve gotten more and more efficient while working less, spending more time with my family, taking vacations, getting more done, and making more money!
So tell me, have you looked at how your work/life balance feels lately? Q1 is the perfect time to reflect on what worked and didn’t work last year, so you can move forward in 2025. If you’re ready to start this process, I have an amazing resource for you called the FOCUS FORWARD 2025 Goal Setting Roadmap for Photographers – and it’s FREE!
Feel free to grab it above!
