Best Locations for Fall Family Photos in North Idaho

When it comes to the best locations for fall family photos in North Idaho, I may know a thing or two! As a lifestyle family photographer working in CDA for the last few years, I have come to find some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces for Autumn family sessions. Fall is widely understood to be a stunning season, and rightly so! The colors, the crisp air, the lead up to the holidays; everything about it is wonderful! Let’s go over a few of my most favorite places to shoot fall family photos.

Corbin Park

Located in Kootenai County (my own county!), this park is simply stunning. The Spokane River weaves through the park, which always makes for a gorgeous backdrop for photos. The big trees all throughout the park make for that perfect fall feeling, with leaves changing and cooler weather ahead. The park is beautifully maintained, and has amazing energy that is magical to be a part of.

Blue Creek Bay

Blue Creek Bay is part of the Wallace Forest Conservation Area. It’s very popular for hiking, biking, fishing, and picnicking! If you’re an outdoorsy family (which is almost a requirement for living in North Idaho!), then maybe after the session you could do the 2.6 mile hiking loop together! The most special part of fall family photos is how much bonding takes place, all of which I get to capture.

Farragut State Park

Farragut has to be one of the most breathtaking places in North America, and we’re so incredibly lucky to have it in our backyards! It’s on the south end of Lake Pend Oreille, and spans 4000 miles with a huge system of trails and campgrounds. When you think of snow-capped mountains and pristine greenery with sprawling, gorgeous trees… Farragut is all of that and more!

Tubbs Hill

I adore shooting sessions at Tubbs Hill, and I do it often. Bordered by Lake Coeur d’Alene on three sides, we can plan to have the gorgeous water in frame almost every time! It’s such a beautiful backdrop to those silly, energetic family moments (to be fair, all of these spots on this list are). There are amazing trails to hike and take in all the views, and we can of course meander around during our session!

Mineral Ridge

Serving as a sort of overlook to Lake Coeur d’Alene, Mineral Ridge is a perfect fall family photo spot. The trail at Mineral Ridge is incredible– lush vegetation and some of the brightest greenery you can experience. If you’re a nerd about diversity in natural habitats, this would be an amazing place to come for a session! You can go through with your kiddos and let them explore and ask all the questions.

Let’s Get In Touch

Fall is a wonderful season to get family photos, for a few reasons. It’s a season of change, with a new start up ahead, which I find perfect to represent the ever-changing nature of your kiddos. It’s also just an exciting time of year! The kids are back in school, Halloween is coming and then all the big holidays; everyone is typically humming with excitement during the Autumn months.

As a Coeur d’Alene lifestyle photographer, the beauty of North Idaho is never lost on me. We are so lucky to have these gorgeous spaces at our disposal, to treat with love and respect as we document our most precious memories. Do you have any favorite outdoor spots? If you’re interested in learning more about lifestyle photography, let’s get in touch! I am a huge lover of film photography, and the two go together so well.
